Holcim and One Earth One Ocean today launched the Circular Explorer in Manila to help clean up the coastal areas of the Philippines. At the same time, he is piloting an education program to empower students and local communities as agents of change to take action for people and the planet. Taking a science-based approach for greater impact, it partners with the University of the Philippines Marine Institute to advance ocean research. Scientific initiatives, such as that supported by Holcim with its Circular Explorer, are a significant contribution to these efforts. By advancing research together, we can help educate the public and support key decision makers with relevant data to take action.

Horia Adrian, President and CEO, Holcim Philippines: “The circular explorer is a symbol of Holcim’s commitment to sustainability. Across our business, we have recycled more than 20 million tons of materials into alternative fuels and low-emission feedstocks across our operations over the past 15 years. By 2024, we will become the first company in our industry in the Philippines to operate solar panels in our factories. I am thrilled to partner today with like-minded organizations to make a bigger difference together.

In the Philippines, Holcim’s 1,070 employees operate four factories at the forefront of sustainability, with brands ranging from ECOPlanet green cement to its advanced line of building solutions for resilience and repair.

In line with its commitment to circular building, Holcim is engaging with cities around the world to accelerate the transition to circular living. To enable broader action, Holcim launched the Circular Cities Barometer with Bloomberg Media, showcasing the world’s top 25 cities at the forefront of circularity. Quezon City features in this global ranking, standing out for its circular systems and leadership. It was the first city in the Philippines to set up waste-to-energy power plants and has banned all single-use plastics since 2019. Its nearly 3 million residents can pay their utility bills with credits obtained by recycling plastics, metal, paper and cardboard. .

To intensify circularity in the region, Holcim brought together experts from the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources with non-governmental organizations such as Build Change to discuss how to move from a linear take-do- waste” to a circular economy. reduce-reuse-recycle’.
