By focusing on education, advocacy, and inclusivity, the local nonprofit is sparking a global movement to encourage health leaders and businesses to address unmet community needs.

EAST GREENWICH, RI, June 28, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Sponsors of the Future (SoF) — a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that focuses on building ecosystems and programs for growing teens with neurodivergent disorders — launched today with an essential mission of inclusion: to prepare children and adolescents with unique challenges for more fulfilled and independent adults.

SoF, focused on education, advocacy, and inclusivity, is dedicated to implementing life transition programs that help develop important social and life skills in aging children. SoF ecosystems facilitate strong connections and partnerships between businesses and the communities they serve. Pfizer founder and former scientist Dr. Jake Lee explains, “I spent many years developing drugs for everything from rare diseases to COVID-19, but I saw a severe disconnect between my work and the people they were meant to help.”

He continues, “While navigating the healthcare industry for my daughter with neurodivergent challenges, I was frustrated with the lack of practical support options available. It became clear that the healthcare industry puts more l emphasis on over-medicalization and curative treatments. There are other things to consider besides the medical aspects.” Dr. Lee has over 20 years of industry experience with global pharmaceutical leaders including Pfizer, Lonza, Shire, Amgen and Takeda in the United States.

Michele Nadeem-Bakerleukemia survivor, national patient advocate and pilot of the SoF patient engagement program stresses, “I dream of the day when healthcare and life sciences companies truly take into account the being of a patient as a whole. [neurodivergent] children, it is all the more important that there are more programs for them. These skills will help them make the transition to [adulthood] so that they can live a life like everyone else and have a career.
